About Jamma Wellbeing

Jamma Wellbeing exists to help people understand themselves, strengthen their resilience and take practical steps towards improving their wellbeing. Our work is built on a simple but powerful idea: when people understand how their brain works, they can gain the tools to change how they respond to life’s challenges. Through education, community programmes and partnerships, we translate knowledge about the brain into practical life skills that people can use everyday.

Our aim is to empower individuals and communities with knowledge that supports long-term wellbeing, helping people develop confidence, self-awareness and the ability to support others around them.

Our Story

Jamma Wellbeing is part of the wider Jamma International family, a UK-registered charity founded in 2010 to support projects that create lasting impact for people and the planet.

Over time, Jamma’s work evolved and expanded. In 2024 the organisation developed into three distinct areas of focus: Jamma Wellbeing, Jamma Conservation & Communities, and Jamma Innovation.

Each organisation works independently but shares the same mission: to support sustainable change and improve lives through practical, evidence-based approaches. Jamma Wellbeing focuses specifically on mental wellbeing, education and community empowerment.

OUR APPROACH

At the heart of our work is a commitment to making wellbeing knowledge accessible to everyone. Many people struggle with stress, anxiety or emotional challenges without understanding why these experiences occur. Jamma Wellbeing addresses this by translating complex ideas about the brain into clear, practical skills that people can learn and apply in their everyday lives.

Our programmes are designed to:

be simple and easy to understand

be relevant to real-life situations

empower individuals to take control of their wellbeing

be delivered by communities as well as professionals

By making wellbeing education practical and relatable, we enable people to build resilience and develop skills that support themselves and others.

Brain Smart®

Central to Jamma Wellbeing’s work is Brain Smart®, a wellbeing education approach developed from a book with the same title by Agneta Johansson.

Brain Smart® helps people understand how their brain shapes their thoughts, emotions and behaviours. By learning how the brain responds to stress, fear and everyday experiences, individuals gain practical tools to manage their reactions and develop healthier patterns of thinking.

Brain Smart® is designed to be accessible to people from all backgrounds and walks of life. It can be taught in schools, communities, workplaces and many other settings, helping individuals develop the knowledge and skills to improve their wellbeing and support others.

The Brain Smart® approach teaches that:

the brain plays a central role in creating our experiences

all emotions are normal and necessary

people have the capacity to change how they respond

practical knowledge can empower positive change in everyday life

Our Founder

Jamma Wellbeing was developed through the lived experience and passion of Agneta Johansson, who has spent many years exploring how understanding the brain can transform mental wellbeing.

Through her own journey with anxiety and depression, Agneta became determined to understand why the brain responds the way it does and how people can learn to manage those responses more effectively. Her research and experience led to the development of Brain Smart®, a programme that empowers individuals with practical knowledge about how their brain works.

Agneta believes that wellbeing should not depend on complicated theories or specialist language. Instead, people should be given clear knowledge and skills that allow them to take control of their own wellbeing.

Building Change Through Communities

Jamma Wellbeing works with partners, organisations and local communities to deliver programmes that are inclusive, accessible and sustainable.

By training community leaders, educators and peer mentors, we help create networks of people who can share knowledge and support others. This approach ensures that wellbeing education continues to spread through communities long after the initial programme began.

Through collaboration and shared learning, we are building a growing network of people who are equipped with the tools to improve their own wellbeing and positively influence those around them.

OUR VISION

A world where people are empowered with life-changing understanding about how their brain works, enabling them to build resilience, support others and create healthier communities.
